The Men Who Stare At Goats (SPOILER version)

The guy who started it basically spent four years in the new wave movements of the 70's, (at the army's expense). The goals were rather lofty, (like learning to run through walls), and some things like, Remote Viewing, are of questionable veracity, but in the end there were real-world benefits.

The "Super Soldiers", (the initial goal, although I think the Nietzschean Over Solders is more applicable), could memorize small details about a situation instantly; overcome the limitations of fear, allowing them to gain strength from a position that would normally be a position of extreme weakness, (i.e. being taken hostage); survive and thrive on minial resources, among other things.

The topic was actually taken seriously by the US military, leading to a remote viewing programme, to the development of non-lethal weapons, renewable energy, and other fields. Unfortunately the pacifistic nature was kidnapped by the military and ended up creating modern psychological warfare and torture measures, and to the eponyous incident of trying, (draw your own conclusions about succeeding), about a soldier killing a goat with his mind.

The original idea was to be warriors of peace, but it all ended up just being drawn back into the cycle of traditional warfare.

Caveat:
I write fiction. Nothing that happens in my stories are based off real events, nor are any of the characters meant to associate with real life figures, (except Jack Thompson). Some of the things are illogical, immoral, or downright illegal: don't do them!

All monkeys are properly trained, and none were hurt during the production of my works.
